Random Effects Simulation for Sample Size Calculations Using SAS
Sample size calculations are a critical step in the planning of any experiment. In all but the simplest of experimental designs, closed-form equations are not readily available, and statisticians are required to use simulations to estimate an appropriate sample size for the experiment. Specifically, when multiple explanatory variables are thought to be predictive of the response or when missing...
متن کاملSample size calculations in clinical research.
The specific goal of this (2nd edition) book continues to be to provide a comprehensive and unified presentation regarding sample size calculations in a variety of clinical research and development phases and to serve as a solid reference for researchers in academia, industry, and government. The book has been expanded, by around 100 pages, from its original 12 chapters to its current 15 chapte...
متن کاملCoping with clustering in sample size calculations
Background Clustering often occurs in individually randomised trials and is sometimes ignored when calculating sample sizes. Examples include practitioner effects in individually randomised trials with more than one practitioner or therapist effects from group interventions where clustering may be in one arm only. Additional levels of clustering may also occur in cluster randomised trials and e...
متن کاملMolecular Dynamics Simulation of Potassium Chloride Melting(.I. Microcrystal Simulation and Sample Size Effect)
The effect of sample size on the melting parameter of simulated potassium chloride microcrystal is investigated by molecular dynamics simulation. The size of microcrystal is varied from 8 to 4096 ions. The increase in melting temperature with sample size was found to be in good agreement with the theory.
متن کاملSample-Size Calculations for Cohen's Kappa
In recent years, researchers in the psychosocial and biomedical sciences have become increasingly aware of the importance of sample-size calculations in the design of research projects. Such considerations are, however, rarely applied for studies involving agreement of raters. Published results on this topic are limited and generally provide rather complex formulas. In addition, they generally ...
